Vietnam Built Mi-8 Simulation Cockpit

17 Oktober 2017

Mi-8 simulator (photo : qpvn)

In pilot training, the use of ground-based simulators will reduce costs and increase training efficiency many times.

The Mi-8 helicopter flight simulator designed and built by the Air Force Air Defense Force (PK_KQ) is based on state-of-the-art technology that is one of the breakthroughs. in the training and combat readiness of the army.

These systems help to solve the problem of training and training pilots in the new situation, while minimizing costs while still ensuring effective training as in real aircraft. On the other hand, pilots can practice difficult situations in the training ground on the ground rather than on the aircraft as before.

The Mi-8 helicopter flight training system is currently being equipped for a number of PK-KQ units, including the 930th Regiment (Division 372).

The screen shots show the simulation parameters of the training system. With multiple displays and software support, training officers and pilots can easily customize the display, allowing you to display the parameters as you like.

The simulated flight simulator also uses a joystick similar to a real-life helicopter. With this simulation system, the training officers can construct a hypothetical scenario where several aircraft parts are experiencing trouble so that students and pilots can learn how to cope with the problem while flying.

Flight simulators can help trainers assess the capabilities of trainees and pilots before they can perform training exercises well on real Mi-8 helicopters.

The Mi-8 is a legendary helicopter design developed by the Mil Moscow (Soviet Union) in the 1960s, manufactured directly by today's two factories, Kazan and Ulan-Ude. This is considered one of the most production helicopters in the world (more than 17,000), most commonly used (in about 80 countries, territories).

The Mi-8 multi-purpose transport helicopter has been in service with the Vietnam People's Air Force since 1973. It has served effectively in the final stages of the American war, and especially in the border war. South Korea 1978-1979, campaigns to help Cambodian people escape genocide.

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is trialing the next generation in military communications via Honeywell’s JetWave Ka-band satellite communications hardware and Inmarsat’s Global Xpress satellite network.

The RAAF is conducting a six-month trial of the JetWave hardware, including the fuselage-mount antenna (FMA), on a C-130J Hercules military transport aircraft.

At in-air VIP trials in Canberra, Australia, a truly connected battlefield evaluation — powered by JetWave — was successfully demonstrated using a number of secure military applications that previous technology couldn’t enable, including live video streaming and encrypted file transfer.

“Honeywell is proud to usher in the era of the Connected Aircraft for military operators,” said Ben Driggs, President, Americas, Honeywell Aerospace. “The RAAF has been at the forefront of connectivity technologies, seeing the importance of having this type of connectivity for operators. JetWave provided unparalleled situational awareness to the aircrew, passengers and ground-based leaders, ultimately enabling better decision making and enhanced safety.”

The RAAF’s fleet of 12 C-130Js is frequently used to deliver disaster relief in Australia and the Pacific region, as well as to support military deployments overseas.

“Staying connected is vitally important in the modern battlespace. This demonstration is the first of its type in the world and it’s been a great success,” said Wing Commander Rob Crawford, Staff Officer Capability Development for the RAAF’s Air Mobility Group. “Decision superiority is about delivering the right information, to the right people, at the right time, so better decisions can be made. JetWave allows us to do that.”

The trial is being conducted with support from industry partners Airbus Group Australia Pacific, Inmarsat Global Government, as well as the Australian Government Defence Department’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group.

“This project has been in the works for a long time and is testament to the power of industry and defense working together to ensure that communications are an effective tool for delivering greater operational capability,” said Todd McDonell, Vice President of Inmarsat Global Government.

KF-X Advances, as Detailed Design Beckons

16 Oktober 2017

KF-X fighter (image : Aviation)

The final design of the Korea Aerospace Industries KF-X fighter is expected in June 2018, at which point detailed design will commence.

The detailed design phase for the twin-engined type will run until late 2019, at which point the production of prototypes will commence, says an official familiar with the programme.

A first flight is planned in the middle part of 2022, with testing and evaluation to run until 2026.

The KF-X will have both single and two-seat versions, and be powered by two General Electric F414 engines.

At present, the design is undergoing wind tunnel tests and computational fluid dynamic analysis.

The official adds that Indonesia, which is undertaking 20% of development costs, obtained export licences from the US government in April 2017. Indonesian Aerospace has over 80 staff working on the programme, along with staff from Lockheed Martin and KAI. Jakarta's variant, of which it will obtain about 80 examples, is referred to as the IF-X.

"At this point, there is almost now difference between KF-X and IF-X shapes," says the official.

Still, the South Korean and Indonesian examples are likely to be different. Previously, officials have said that a Block I configuration without stealth coatings and the ability to carry weapons internally will go to Indonesia. South Korea will have a Block II aircraft, with stealth coatings and weapons bays.

Seoul will also develop indigenous capabilities in key areas where it failed to obtain export licences from the US, an early stumbling block for the programme. These include the jet's active electronically scanned array (AESA), which will be developed with Israeli assistance, infrared search & track (IRST), electro-optical targeting, and the aircraft's electronic warfare suite.

Seoul plans to obtain 80 IF-X fighters, while Seoul plans to obtain 120 examples of KF-X.

PH Navy plans to get Tactical Combat Vehicles for Marines

The Philippine Navy is planning to procure 87 new Armored Tactical Combat Vehicles for the Philippine Marine Corps in 2018 as part of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Second Horizon.

Second Horizon of the ongoing military modernization will start next year and will end 2022. The First Horizon is now on its final year.

According to MaxDefense Philippines, the Navy is allocating PHP2.610 billion for the acquisition of 87 new Armored Tactical Combat Vehicles.

“No specifications has been provided yet, but based on the budget alone we can assume that its a wheeled armored vehicle smaller than the Simba, but definitely larger than an armored Humvee or KIA Light Tactical Vehicle,” MaxDefense said.

MaxDefense added that the procurement of said vehicles may have born out of experience from fighting in Marawi City which mainly required urban warfare operations.

However, MaxDefense noted that “AFP’s procurement plans are so liquid that it keeps on changing.”

“Brigif 3 jadi cikal bakal Pasmar.

Keel Laying Ceremony for MMEA OPV

16 Oktober 2017

A CGI of the MMEA OPV (image : APMM)

SHAH ALAM: The keel laying ceremony for the first out of three MMEA OPV is expected to be held this December. It will be held at the THHE-Destini shipyard in Pulau Indah, in Port Klang.

Industry sources told Malaysian Defence steel cutting for the first OPV is already underway in Singapore and it was a matter of time before the prepared materials are shipped to Port Klang for the building process to start.

For those unawares, we also sourced and cut steel for both the LCS and NGPV projects – overseas as Malaysian steel producers do not make steel for ship-building. In the case of the LCS and NGPV, the steel were sourced and cut at two different manufacturing plants in Holland.

By getting the steel from a plant in the region, THHE-Destini would have reduce the cost for the OPV somewhat.

Australia’s cooperation with Indonesia on maritime security has been further strengthened through a trilateral maritime security patrol in the Timor Sea north-west of Darwin, targeting illegal exploitation of natural resources.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) and Indonesian Coast Guard (BAKAMLA), as part of Operation Shearwater V, concluded the patrol together with the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs & Fisheries (MMAF) on 11 October 2017.

Operation Shearwater and the MMAF Coordinated Patrols are usually standalone patrols but, in a first for all of the involved agencies, were combined into a single operation.

These patrols target the illegal exploitation of natural resources and help to stop illegal fishing and environmental threats, while simultaneously improving operational communication between Australia and Indonesia.

The Australian Border Force Cutter (ABFC) Cape St George worked alongside BAKAMLA vessel KN Gaja Laut 4804 and MMAF vessels KP Orca 01 and Hui Macan Tutul 01 with an ABF Dash-8 aerial aircraft complementing the surface assets.

In support of this operation, an AFMA officer was on board ABFC Cape St George for the duration of the patrol.

Commander Maritime Border Command (MBC), Rear Admiral (RADM) Peter Laver, said these activities demonstrate the inter-operability of MBC, BAKAMLA and MMAF assets and enhance Australia’s collaboration between agencies involved.

“The combined Operation demonstrates the close relationship between MBC, AFMA, BAKAMLA and MMAF to combat the ongoing threats of illegal civil maritime activity, including foreign fishing either side of Australia and Indonesia’s maritime boundaries.

“These maritime operations are a result of ongoing close cooperation among the ABF and our international law enforcement and intelligence partners,” RADM Laver said.

This was the fifth Operation Shearwater conducted between the ABF and BAKAMLA, with the inaugural patrol occurring in October 2013.

Vietnam's CSB 8020 Ready to Return Home

14 Oktober 2017

CSB 8020 Vietnamese Coast Gurad (photo : BaoDatViet)

On the foreign military sites appeared latest pictures of Vietnamese CSB 8020 ship at the time of the day 04.10.2017.

Currently, Vietnam CSB 8020 and its crew are being trained in Honolulu in the Hawaiian Islands of America. Recently, the ship has welcomed Vietnamese Ambassador to the  US Pham Quang Vinh.

The panoramic image of the CSB 8020 did not appear during the visit, but a clear picture of it was made on October 4, 2017.

Looking outside, the ship was brought a new coat of paint, indicating that the repair process was completed, preparing to self-journey back to Vietnam. If that is the case then we will officially receive the train at the end of this year as expected.

Another noteworthy detail is that the number of the ship is only 20, not 8020 as the original information.

CSB 8020 is a Hamilton class patrol vessel, the WHC 722, which is based at the Avondale Plant, and was officially commissioned on March 10, 1969, and has just retired on April 18, 1977.

The ship has a full load stretch of 3,250 tons; length 115 m; width of 13 m; draft of 4.6 m; 160 crew members (including 20 officers and 140 crew members).

The vessel is equipped with a combined propulsion system consisting of two diesel engines and two gas turbine engines, giving a maximum speed of 29 knots (53.7 km / h), a range of 14,000 nautical miles (22,531 km ), continuous time of 45 days.

The original ship's weaponry included the AN/SPS-40 airborne radar guns, the 76.2 mm Oto Breda gunboat, the 20 mm Phalanx CIWS, the M242 Bushmaster size 25 mm, 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine gun and 7.62 mm M240 light machine gun.

However, based on the above image, only the only gunboat Oto Breda along with the fire control radar was retained.

It is expected that after the WHEC 722, Vietnam Coast Guard can receive some more Hamilton class patrol boats from the US Coast Guard.

The Australian government awarded FLIR Systems a $6.8 Million firm-fixed-price order to deliver BLACK HORNET Personal Reconnaissance Systems (PRS) in support of the Australian Army.

The units delivered under this contract will support platoon and troop level organic surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. The Australian Army previously purchased the nano unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for test and evaluation purposes, leading to the awarded contract for full operational deployment after a re-competed tender.

“We are pleased to be selected by the Australian Army to provide this previously non-existent personal reconnaissance technology,” Jim Cannon, President and CEO of FLIR Systems said. “This recent contract highlights the increasing demand for the BLACK HORNET to be incorporated within the operational capability of the world’s leading militaries, providing immediate deployable security.”

This contract expands the use of FLIR PRS for Army surveillance and reconnaissance programmes. FLIR Systems has delivered over 5,000 BLACK HORNET PRS around the world, reiterating the demand for the relatively new nano-UAV technology offered by FLIR Systems. Originally developed in 2007 and continually enhanced since then, BLACK HORNET has seen service in Afghanistan since 2011, where the UK, as launch customer, was also the first to deploy it operationally.

FLIR Systems will manufacture the systems in Oslo, Norway. Deliveries will begin in 2018 and be completed within one year.

The objective of TAP is to conduct air patrols in the maritime territorial waters of the three countries and to provide operational support to maritime units of marine forces.

TAP was one of the initiatives to strengthen security and readiness of air space and maritime surveillance.

The patrol also aimed to intensify security in the eastern waters of Sabah through the implementation of air patrols with the three countries and to strengthen the states security through diplomatic relations between Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

"The implementation of TAP follows the launch of the TMP to combat violence. The TMP aims to ensure that militant groups, including the Islamic State, will not conduct operations in the Sulu Sea against the three countries and to combat piracy and prevent kidnappings and armed robberies," Hussein stated.(*)
