PN to Acquire Spare Parts for Tanker 1

MANILA (PNA) -- In line with its efforts to boost the numbers of its serviceable assets, the Philippine Navy (PN) announced that it is allocating Php5,026,808.59 for the acquisition of spare parts needed for the maintenance and upgrade of its Tanker 1.

Winning bidders are required to deliver the items within 15 calendar days.

Issuance of bidding documents is on April 1 to 21.

The PN is known to operate between five to six tankers which it uses for the refueling of its naval assets.

Actually it is five tankers; two ex-US Navy YO Fueler and three recently acquired commercial tankers from Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) which one is the issue of this news article the ex-Motor Tanker Lapu-Lapu, with Naval Hull number AF-81. All units has limited capability for Underway replenishment (UNREP) at most astern fueling if equipment exist. Presently these are mainly used as transport tankers only; from one naval base to another. Another issue that should be taken by the Philippine Navy are the installation of at least minimum defensive armaments.

  2. Additional remarks; First of all outstanding sand-blasting & paint job of Keppel Shipyard, the ship now looks brand-new. The Philippine Navy got a very good deal with MT Lapu Lapu since it is a young vessel, only 7 years old. It was launched in 2008 in a shipyard in China. I think this additional cost is for engine & generator spare parts and navigational equipments.
